Neon Signs

Since the early 1900s Neon Signs have been used as a form of illuminating a brand logo, lettering and for other types of illuminated signage. Over the years neon signs have still remained within the top three methods of sign making despite there being cheaper methods of producing illuminated shop signs since the introduction of LED lights.

Neon signs have a distinctive and time-less look which is why they’re found in bars, restaurants and shops throughout the world, and by using the latest machinery and technology combined with the years of industry experience from a neon sign maker, we’re able to push to boundaries to create more complex and colourful intricate designs for signs.

Neon signs are handmade by glass-bending specialists who transform tubes of glass into shapes and designs to simulate a brand logo or a series of text. There’s an array of colours available which will be determined by the type of glass tubes used to form the design as well as the composition of neon gasses or other gasses used to fill the tubes.

Neon sign making still to this day is a cottage industry as well as an eclectic art, and ever since the first neon sign was produced over a hundred years ago, almost all neon tubes are made my hand. The interior of the tubes are coated with a thin phosphorescent powder-coating and the tubes are filled with a purified gas mixture so that as the gas ionizes once a high voltage is applied between both ends of the sealed tube, a beautiful bright colourful light is emitted.

Even though neon signs aren’t the most cost-effective way of producing an illuminated sign, they most certainly are one of the most captivating which is why they’re a popular choice and used so much for restaurant signs. Read more in our previous blog on Popular Types of Restaurant Signage
