What are shop signs called?

Shop signs are commonly referred to by several names depending on their style, location, and purpose. The most widely used terms include fascia signs, retail signage, storefront signs, or simply shopfront signs. These signs are typically mounted on the exterior of a shop—above doors or windows—to display the business name, logo, or branding.

In addition to fascia signage, shop signs can also include:

  • Window graphics – adhesive vinyl applied to glass
  • Projecting signs – signs that extend outward from the building façade
  • Pavement signs or A-boards – freestanding signs placed outside the shop
  • Illuminated signs – including lightboxes or LED-lit letters for high visibility

Each type plays a role in attracting attention, conveying professionalism, and guiding potential customers inside. A well-designed shop sign does more than identify your business—it’s a powerful marketing tool that communicates your brand personality at first glance.
