Popular types of Church Signage

When choosing the right church sign for your church, you really are spoiled for choice as there are so many types of signs and methods of producing the perfect sign to complement the style of the building; whether it’s a traditional chapel or a more modern-looking church.

In this brief blog, we look at a few of the options currently being used within the signage industry to help give you some ideas for when the time comes to replacing your church signage.

What makes a good church sign?

Generally speaking, due to the size of the grounds in which a church is normally situated within, you would typically have a series of signage to ensure the church is well sign-written. This would usually consist of one main sign, either above the main entrance of the church which displays the name of the church in a series of sign lettering which can be accompanied with a cross or crucifix. If the church is set-off from the main road then it’s a good idea to have a smaller free-standing church sign board which also displays the name of the church along with other useful information such as service times and contact details.

Types of Church Lettering & Signage available:

Here’s a few styles of 3D lettering, flat raised lettering and freestanding church sign boards currently being used my sign makers when manufacturing church signage. There are absolutely loads of methods for producing a church sign, however we’ve hand-picked our top most common signs.

3D Church Lettering3D Painted Church Letters: Typically produced in either aluminium or stainless steel, the letters are fabricated and welded together to create a boxed-style letter which has depth and looks three-dimensional. The letters can be painted in a variety of hard-wearing paint colours which are suitable for outdoor use. The letters are usually then mounted to the wall using a number of raised wall fixings which gives the impression that the letters are floating and raised. The letters can also be illuminated with L.E.D lighting to help make the signage visible at night.

Illuminated Church Cross Sign: Usually produced in either aluminium or stainless steel, a church cross or crucifix is fabricated / welded together to create a strong boxed-style shape which has depth and looks three-dimensional. The cross can be painted in a variety of hard-wearing paint colours which are suitable for outdoor use or it can have a brushed or polished steel finish. An L.E.D lighting system is then used to help make the cross visible at night as the cross glows nicely from behind in either a white light or an alternative choice of colour using coloured L.E.D modules.

Church logo sign3D Metal Church Logos & Crests: A lovely way to display a church name or logo is to produce it in a metal such as brushed stainless steel or polished stainless steel which is long lasting and designed to look timeless, which works well with both traditional churches and modern chapels. The logo can be produced as either a flat cut sign which is usually 2-3mm thick and which is on raised wall fixings, or it can be fabricated so that it has more depth such as 50-100mm and which looks more three-dimensional. The logo can be illuminated with L.E.D lighting.

The sign board itself can be produced with a traditional border running around the outer edge, or it can simply be a border-less flat panel; both of which are available in a range of shapes, sizes and colours. These types of signs aren’t normally illuminated however lighting can be incorporated

raised church letters

Raised Painted Metal Church Letters: Typically produced in either aluminium or stainless steel, and with a thickness of approx. 2-3mm, the painted metal letters are all produced in the font and size required. The signage letters are then powder-coated in the colour of your choice so they’re suitable for outdoor use. Rather than the letters having strips of metal welded onto the sides of them to create a boxed-like 3D letter, the flat cut letters are just produced from a flat sheet of metal and mounted to the wall using raised wall brackets so they still appear to be raised and three-dimensional.

Chruch letters signage Raised Metal Church Letters: Just like the raised painted letters above, these stainless steel letters have a thickness of approx. 2-3mm and are available in either a polished steel finish or a brushed steel effect. The metal sign letters are also made to order in the font and size of your choice so you can really customize your sign to suit the building, plus they’re suitable for outdoor use so you’ll end up with a long lasting sign. Produced from a flat sheet of steel, the letters are mounted to the wall using raised wall brackets so they still appear to be raised and three-dimensional.

With a large range of materials, colours and production methods for manufacturing your sign, you’re able to create a truly unique sign which not only looks like it tailor-made, but also produce a sign which is long-lasting which suits the church and complements the building.
